CORTLANDT MANOR, N.Y. (Dec 14, 2016)— Access Physical Therapy & Wellness announced that it presented a donation of $1,247 to the Lymphoma Research Foundation. The money was raised in recognition of Light it Red for Lymphoma, an annual campaign by the Lymphoma Research Foundation that raises research funds and awareness about the most common form of blood cancer in the United States.

Light it Red for Lymphoma took place in September as part of National Blood Cancer Awareness Month. Access had set a fundraising goal of $1,000, and by the time the fundraiser was over, they had exceeded their goal by 25 percent. Donations were made by Access employees and patients.

This is an important cause for the Access family. In 2008, Access’ physical therapist Joe Rifino was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma. Rifino went through six months of radiation and chemotherapy. Afterwards, testing showed that he was in remission. Now, eight years later, Rifino is still in remission, and he wanted to raise awareness and research funds for others who have been given that devastating diagnosis.

“Access performs treatments to help cancer patients who developed peripheral neuropathy and weakness from chemotherapy treatments, a common side effect of the harsh medications,” said Rifino. “We have seen many improvements in the balance and stability of our patients who are affected this way.”

Rifino practices out of the Cortlandt Manor and Fishkill locations of Access Physical Therapy & Wellness. The Cortlandt Manor clinic is located at 2050 E Main St, Suite 4 and the Fishkill clinic is in Building 2 of Heritage Square at 2531 Route 52, Suite 2.

Access provides services for orthopedic injuries, back and neck pain, balance problems and dizziness, difficulty walking, headaches, TMJ, and various neurological conditions. Hours of operation are 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Monday through Friday.
