KNIGHTDALE, N.C. (June 14, 2017) – Access Physical Therapy & Wellness owner and director Martha Harris, PT, DPT, GCS, Cert. DN, recently attended a seminar on treating geriatric patients experiencing polypharmacy, or the use of four or more medications at once. The course is targeted towards physical therapists working with older adults looking to learn how to deal with the effects of medications on their patients. The course was held on April 29 and 30 in Raleigh.

Harris said of the seminar, “I chose this course because of my passion for providing my geriatric patients with the best care possible. Understanding how their medications impact their participation in physical therapy is crucial for helping my patients achieve their functional goals.”

The course was instructed Kenneth Miller, DPT, GCS, CEEAA. Course objectives include evaluating and treating patients with polypharmacy, defining and explaining medication errors, identifying adverse drug reactions, and more. The North Carolina Board of Physical Therapy Examiners approved this course for 20 contact hours of continuing professional education.
