WOODSTOCK, N.Y. (Feb 22, 2017)—Suzanne Sjem, PT, MS, DPT, OCS, and co-director of the Woodstock clinic of Access Physical Therapy & Wellness has recently become certified in Active Release Technique (ART) for the spine.

ART is a patented soft tissue mobilization technique that treats damaged soft tissues, such as muscles, ligaments, tendons, fascia, and nerves. The goal of ART is to restore mobility to soft tissue and eliminate pain.

“Many patients come to us with soft tissue damage in the cervical, lumbar, and thoracic spine,” said Sjem. “The ART technique allows us to treat the underlying causes of pain and immobility and get these patients back to optimal health in less time than what was previously possible.”

Sjem is also certified in ART for upper extremity. ART for upper extremity is used in treating carpal tunnel syndrome, tennis elbow and certain shoulder injuries. In combination with ART for the spine, ART for upper extremity can also be used to treat an array of issues that affect the neck and shoulder.

The Woodstock office is open on Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., and now you can make an appointment without a prescription from your primary physician.
