Is Chronic Pain or Injury Keeping You from Daily Activities? #ChooseOT

Goshen, N.Y. (April 4, 2017)—April is Occupational Therapy Month, and in honor of that, Access Physical Therapy & Wellness would like to promote its occupational therapy services in its Goshen and Monroe clinics and its three hospital-based locations: Bon Secours Community Hospital in Port Jervis, St. Anthony Community Hospital Center for Physical Rehabilitation in Warwick, and Good Samaritan Hospital in Suffern which are part of Bon Secours Charity Health System, a Member of the Westchester Medical Center Health Network.

Occupational therapy is an evidence-based practice, meaning that the plan designed for an individual is backed up by experience, data, and the best practices that have been proven over time. It enables people of all ages to live life by helping them promote health, and prevent or live better with illness, injury, or disability.

Access Physical Therapy & Wellness’ #ChooseOT campaign is aimed at raising awareness of occupational therapy as an alternative to surgery and opioid pain medication to treat chronic pain and injury.

“In the past, the primary treatment for chronic pain or injury has been surgery or opioid pain medications,” said Cynthia Boccia, OTR/L. “but recent studies have shown that occupational therapy can be just as, if not more, effective as a treatment.”

Occupational therapy is a health care profession aimed at enabling people to live life to its fullest. To occupational therapists, a “full” life means engagement in the activities that a person wants and needs to do, no matter what injury, illness, condition or disability they face.

The clinics provide services for conditions associated with the hand, wrist and elbow. They can range from orthopedic injuries, OA/RA, cumulative trauma disorders and repetitive strain injuries, and tendon injuries. We also specialize in custom splinting for the hand, wrist and elbow.
