Knightdale Physical Therapists Complete Course on Shoulder Rehabilitation

KNIGHTDALE, N.C. (May 4, 2017)— Physical therapists at Access Physical Therapy & Wellness, located in suite 103 at 502 McKnight Dr., recently completed a professional continuing education course on rehabilitating and managing shoulder injuries. Clinic owner and director, Martha Harris, PT, DPT, GCS, Cert. DN, and staff members, Kiersten Armstrong, PT, DPT, Cert. DN, and Andrew Davis, PTA, attended the 12-hour course at Duke University.

“I think it’s important for physical therapists to stay up-to-date on all advancements made within the field,” said Harris. “That’s why I attend, and encourage my staff to attend, all continuing education courses that are offered in the area.”

This course focused on the examination, diagnosis, non-operative rehabilitation, surgical management, and post-operative management for the disabled throwing shoulder, the unstable shoulder, and massive rotator cuff tears.

Physical therapists from the American Shoulder and Elbow Society and surgeons from the American Shoulder and Elbow Surgery Society delivered lectures on current research pertinent to each topic, case presentations and question/answer time periods.  Time during the course was dedicated to a hands-on lab to observe and practice throwing assessment, late rehabilitation to performance training for the throwing athlete, and soft tissue manual therapy strategies for the stiff shoulder.

The course, Evidence Based Rehabilitation and Surgical Options for the Disabled Throwing Shoulder, the Unstable Shoulder, and Massive Rotator Cuff Tears, was approved for 12 hours of continuing professional education by the North Carolina Board of Physical Therapy Examiners.

The Knightdale clinic provides services for orthopedic injuries, multiple sclerosis, temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disorders, difficulty walking, poor balance, arthritis and more.
