Area DirectorKaren McCarthy received her bachelor’s degree in Health Science in 2009 and her Doctorate of Physical Therapy in 2012 from the University of Florida.
She began her career in the acute care setting while living in New Jersey. Working primarily in the ICU department, she successfully implemented protocols for early mobilization based on current research. After getting married, Karen moved to the Hudson Valley area and joined the Access Physical Therapy & Wellness family in early 2017 to further her career in outpatient orthopedics.
Karen’s clinical experience is primarily in orthopedic, vestibular, and geriatric physical therapy. She has a special interest in vestibular rehabilitation, and has completed continuing education coursework in that area. As a physical therapist, she loves making a difference in her patients’ lives and getting to know them on a personal level.
In her free time, Karen likes to relax and visit her hometown on the Jersey Shore.

DirectorEmily earned both a Bachelor’s degree in Health Sciences and a Doctorate of Physical Therapy from Quinnipiac University. During her time at Quinnipiac, she was a member of the women’s track & field team. Emily has a passion for promoting healthy lifestyles and enjoys treating patients with a variety of diagnoses. She uses an evidence-based approach in order to help patients achieve goals that are meaningful to them. Outside of the clinic, Emily enjoys running, hiking and spending time outdoors.

Physical TherapistVirna Villanueva, PT is a graduate of Virgen Milagrosa Educational Institution, where she earned her Bachelor of Science in Physical Therapy. She is experienced in treating orthopedic and sports injuries, neurological patients, post-surgical patients, and geriatric conditions. Her favorite part about being a physical therapist is the ability to make a difference in people’s lives through educating and providing treatment of their conditions, and knowing that her patients will have a better quality of life.

Sara has enjoyed working with individuals across their lifespan and found her passion working with adults and pediatrics in the outpatient setting. She has experience treating orthopedic, neurological, and pediatric conditions. She utilizes a combination of evidence-based practice and collaboration with her patients to ensure optimal results that are meaningful to them. Her favorite part about being an occupational therapist is the opportunity to help others achieve greater daily function and quality of life.
